Mordovia is a dynamically developing region located in the central part of the Russian plain. More than 800 thousand residents live in the republic. Mordovia is a multinational republic where harmonious interethnic relations have long been established. The existing national harmony contributes to the development of the original national culture and everyday traditions of all the peoples of the republic. The indigenous population of the republic is Mordva, which belongs to the Finno-Ugric language group. Ethnically, Mordva is heterogeneous and consists of two groups - Erzya and Moksha.
The republic is one of the most environmentally friendly territories in the European part of the country, and Saransk is considered one of the most well-maintained cities in Russia.
The old coat of arms of Saransk depicts a red fox and three arrows, symbolizing the hunting crafts that the local population was engaged in. Modern Saransk is a major industrial center of light and electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, it is a city of talented people - scientists, students, athletes.
